On the Road Again

So I´m back in Bolivia, in Copacabana. Not in the original plans but you know what they say about mice and men and their plans. Well, apparently it applies to women´s plans too :)

Had some exciting travels here-- After Moquegua, I spent a few days in Arequipa, the second biggest city in Peru, with Sara B. just doing touristy stuff and having fun. Interestingly, the best middle eastern food possibly outside of the Middle East is in Arequipa so we ate a LOT of that. Then, I left Sara in Arequipa and took a midnight bus to Puno which is the last big city in Peru before crossing the Bolivian border. Arrived at Puno 5 hrs before my bus to Copacabana left so the clever bus ticket salesman talked me into buying tickets to some super touristy floating islands on Lake Titicaca for a 3 hour tour (a 3 hour tour...). Luckily, my boat made it safely and I saw some really cool islands- totally worked up for tourists but the practice is authentic and thousands of years old so thats kinda neat. Plus I met some silly Brits and an Australian so I actually had some people to talk to! We ended up on the same bus to Copa, although they were heading onto La Paz (silly fools) so that was cool. Nice kids, although not nice enough for me to mock them about it being the 4th of July and them losing the colonies etc, which clearly I would have if I REALLY liked them :)

Been a busy week and a half back in Copa- looking at more bones from the Late Intermediate with a lot of trauma and disease which is really neat. Also lots of cultural relations stuff- marched in another parade today in traditional dress in honor of the bilingual education program!

We went to Tiwanaku yesterday which was absolutely amazing. Its always cool to study and study and study about a place and then to actually go see it? Amazing. The Puerto del Sol is really really really cool and I just stood and stared for a long time like an idiot. But it was so cool! And right there! Definitely a total day of archaeological nerdiness, so in other words, absolutely perfect :)
